About BLK SOCS Coffee+Tea
Mission
Our mission is to brew hope and connection, one cup at a time. Through our passion for exceptional coffee, we are dedicated to supporting the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, inspired by the resilience of our daughter, who was diagnosed with MS shortly after earning her undergraduate degree. During her graduate program welcome, I was deeply concerned about her condition but was reassured by a professor who shared that multiple students in the program had the same diagnosis. With the support of a charity, she was able to participate in a pharmaceutical program that provided state-of-the-art treatments at no out-of-pocket cost. Now, a decade later, she has completed her doctorate and works with terminally ill children. Our family was very fortunate, and our goal is to donate 2-5% of the profits from every sale towards finding a cure and improving the lives of those diagnosed with MS.

Our coffee beans are sourced from a diverse range of sustainable farms across North, Central, and South America, Africa, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea. We are committed to working exclusively with farms that prioritize both environmental stewardship and fair trade practices. This ensures that not only are our beans grown using methods that protect the environment and promote biodiversity, but also that the farmers and workers are treated equitably, receiving fair compensation and working conditions. By supporting these ethical farming practices, we contribute to the well-being of communities around the world while delivering high-quality coffee to our customers.
You might wonder about the name BLK SOCS? During my travels, I discovered that in some parts of the world, coffee is brewed using socks, such as Costa Rica's chorreador. Known as the original "sock coffee," the chorreador was invented more than two centuries ago and is still in use today. This method, also used in Central America and parts of Asia, beautifully maintains the coffee's flavor profile.
We've partnered with CoffeeSock, makers of organic, sustainably harvested cotton filters. These natural filters enhance flavor and offer a reliable brew for less than single-use paper filters. Each set of two filters lasts at least a year, is easy to use and maintain, and is zero-waste and compostable. Visit www.coffeesock.com for more information.
